Moxie - Dog Used as Bait

The Oakland Animal Shelter and Animal Control Field Services, a division of the Oakland Police Department, is responsible for the welfare of all animals in Oakland and for promoting the health and safety of animals and people in the community.

The Oakland Animal Shelter handles over 11,000 animals per year. The Shelter:

Rescues stray, abandoned, abused, and unwanted animals;
Provides medical treatment for all animals housed in the Shelter;
Investigates animal cruelty and enforces laws related to the humane treatment of animals;
Manages rabies control and dog licensing programs;
Educates the public about animals;
Adopts spayed and neutered animals to loving homes; and
Manages a lost-and-found program.
