This little pup has demodectic mange. He was rescued by one of our Animal Control Officers. Demodectic mange is caused by a sensitivity to and overpopulation of Demodex canis – a natural mite that lives on the skin of dogs – and the animal’s immune system is unable to keep the mites under control. The goal now is to decrease the number of mites on his skin and increase his immune system with good food and lots of love. Dog owners need to be aware that if their dog begins to show signs of a skin condition – then they should take their dog to the vet immediately to be diagnosed and treated.

The puppy, now named Toby, is doing so much better every day. The scabs on his head have healed and he’s growing back his fur!
