We work closely with the East Bay SPCA. They take many of our Shelter animals into their program. This transfer allows us to have more room for the many homeless and surrendered animals that need a safe place in Oakland. We have close to 100 small dogs currently and get almost 10 in a day – so this type of help from our partners is essential! Today, EBSPCA came and took all of 12 of our longest term small dogs, including little Lizzy who had been here at the Shelter since March! Lizzy had come to the Shelter covered in horrible mange – her skin was all inflamed and red. We treated her while she lived in our Animal Care Coordinator’s office space. When she recovered, she was put in adoption but just sat and sat. She was overlooked. However, now EBSPCA has taken her and she’ll get new surroundings and a different shot at getting adopted! We thank EBSPCA!
