UPDATE 2/5/11: Amarylis (now Cricket) and Dennis (now Thurman Wigglesworth) have arrived in South Dakota and are both in homes! Follow their adventure on Sioux Empire Pit Rescue’s Facebook Page. Both dogs are learning all about living indoors, including how to go up and down stairs and the joy of a warm bed! Thank you Sioux Empire for providing this opportunity to them! And, thank you to Friends of Oakland Animal Services for paying for their transport to South Dakota. And, a big thank you to Megan Alexander for all of her efforts to coordinate this partnership!

Today, Amarylis and Dennis are headed to South Dakota to Sioux Empire Pit Rescue. These two beautiful, wonderful dogs were rescued in December with 31 other dogs from one home in Oakland. They both lived in small crates. Their life has changed for the better and now they are headed to South Dakota. We thank Sioux Empire Pit Rescue for taking these two cuties into their program. It can sometimes take months for us to find the right home for a dog – however, we didn’t want these guys to have to wait in kennels to find a home. Sioux Empire offered to help and get them into homes immediately! Plus, they are familiar with working with deaf dogs – Amarylis is completely deaf. Thank you to Friends of Oakland Animal Services for covering the cost of getting Amarylis and Dennis fixed and transported.
