We just got this new photo of Kemo (Roy Orbison) having fun in Missouri! We miss the big guy but are so happy that he’s having a great life! Thank you Phoenix Pack!
Gale from Phoenix Pack (formerly Mutts-n-Stuff) took Kemo (now Roy Orbison) to show him off at the Kansas City Roller Derby! He made a lot of new girlfriends – we just know the women he left behind in Oakland are going to get a bit jealous by these photos!
A pit bull smile of true happiness!

Kemo, a blind pit bull, traveled from Oakland Animal Services to Missouri on Friday. He had been at the Oakland Animal Shelter for nearly four months. He had started to show signs of kennel stress. Since Kemo is blind, the noise and smells of the other dogs were really overwhelming his other senses. Our wonderful partner Our Pack, introduced us to the Phoenix Pack (formerly Mutts-n-Stuff) in Misssouri who then offered to take Kemo into their program and house him in their “Phoenix Cottage” – a space that was specifally designed for a blind dog. See original story here.
Friends of Oakland Animal Services and Mutts-n-Stuff collaborated to get Kemo flown to his new home in St. Louis.
Kemo was so happy to get into his crate and was very ready for his flight!
Some final kisses goodbye for OAS volunteer Alex at at SFO Airport.
Kemo arrived safely on Saturday morning and, after a long journey and an even longer pee, he quickly waggled his way into Mutts-n-Stuff Director Gale’s lap and heart!
Gale tells Kemo, newly named Roy Orbison or Orbie for short, that he is home!
Kemo Aka Orbie hanging out in his new “cottage” watching the cats outside! Gale said he learned how to find and use his doggy door to and from his cottage on one try!
Checking out his new toys in his new digs! Gale says the blue one is his favorite and he carries it around with him everywhere!
Jeb, the dog who currently has been at OAS the longest, is headed to Mutts-n-Stuff next week! Thank you Mutts-n-Stuff!!!
