Did you know that more animals at Oakland Animal Services get transferred to partner groups than get adopted directly from the shelter? While our adoption program is one of the shelter’s most important functions, OAS has developed partnerships with many private organizations in order to find homes for animals more quickly. In recent years, OAS has expanded its reach from local organizations to out-of-state groups, driving and flying animals as far as Idaho, Colorado, and South Dakota.
Recently, OAS made its first international transfer with our good neighbors to the north. Thank Dog I Am Out Dog Rescue in Vancouver, Canada, agreed to take four dogs into its program. The lucky pooches have moved up in the world–literally. Gabe, Gigi, and Surfer have already landed in loving homes, while Mollie is in foster care for another week to clear up an ear infection. These dogs have made themselves at home in their new country already, proving that love has no boundaries.
