We celebrate every adoption at OAS, but we had extra cheers for one special animal: a kitten who is now in the home of Oakland city councilmember Libby Schaaf.
When the family’s youngest child turned six, they felt that they were finally ready for a furry presence in their lives and turned to Oakland Animal Services to find their new family member. They were looking for a kitten that wasn’t too rambunctious and would also be good with young kids. “The Oakland Animal Services volunteers were incredibly helpful,” said Schaaf. “Since they are socializing with all the cats every day, they knew right away which ones would have the perfect disposition for a home with two young children.” After a few meet-and-greets, they chose a kitten whose mix of sweet mellowness won them over.
And the update: “The children selected the name Emma for our kitty,” added Schaaf. “Emma has settled right in. She is playful, loving, and brings us joy every day.”
Another happy ending!
