Sabina is a hidden gem. She's very sweet, loyal, cuddly, on the quiet side, walks great on leash, and is potty trained. She doesn't mind other dogs but prefers to keep to herself and is more of an introvert than a social butterfly. Given her mellow attitude, she may not mind cats, but she has not been exposed to them. She gets nervous in new environments and spooked by loud and unexpected noises, so a home with older children would be best to ensure she's her best self.
She's very mellow and spends most of her day relaxing in her bed or cuddling with you on the couch. She's also an excellent overnight guest; she sleeps through the night and rarely moves from her spot. She's not a huge barker; we've only seen her bark when my resident chihuahua starts it, and she joins in. She's great for someone looking for a smaller dog without the giant attitude.
We have not been crate-training her, given that she is not destructive when we are gone, although she is used to being in her playpen and can be left in there overnight or while you're out. She prefers to be next to you rather than tucked away.
We are working on separation anxiety and possessiveness; she growls when we are petting or cuddling with her, and other dogs get close. She also cries when no humans are in the room, but this has been happening less and less as she gets used to us. We are working on these with her, and she seems to respond well to consistent training, treats, pets, and verbal rewards. Sabina is a flight risk and will run off if she is spooked, so whoever adopts her should do on-leash walks only with her for as long as needed as she gets used to her new environment.
Sabina has bloomed so much in her time with us; she went from terrified and distant to sweet and cuddly. She is a prime example of what a little love and a feeling of safety can do. She would be ideal in a home that wants a close companion and can give her a consistent routine in a calm environment. We hope that she goes to someone who is patient and willing to earn her trust. Ideally, someone whose love language is cuddles and affection. Sabina will be sure to return that love a hundredfold.
