Is he a Dachshund mixed with a Golden Retriever? Bassett Hound mixed with Poodle? Your guess is as good as ours, but what we do know is that Napoleon is an incredibly sweet, long-bodied, short-legged ball of floof! Terrified and defensive in the shelter, Napoleon slowly started trusting people, and now is flourishing in a foster home with multiple other dogs (he's even met a cat through a baby gate and tried to lick him--your results may vary!) He has shown some possessive behavior around the other dogs when food is involved, so may do best as the only dog in the home unless careful management and behavior modification is implemented. Napoleon is working on crate training (whines a bit at first but settles down in short order) and house training as well as building his confidence with new people and environments. He will need a patient adopter who will take things slowly and help him, using positive reinforcement, rewards-based training methods.
Napoleon is available to meet potential adopters by appointment only; please email the Dog Adoption Questionnaire to adoption@oaklandsanimals.org to arrange a time to meet him.
