Meet Beech! He has a huge heart and is a gentle affectionate young man. This handsome gentleman took almost no time to meet new people and come out of his shell. For the short time in foster thus far, he learned so many new tricks with just a few treats and lots of love and praises. His foster's favorite trick is when he Dabs! Beech couldn't quite get the hang of paw yet so he stands on his back legs and paws.
Beech can be a jumpy little guy when he gets excited, he has hops too, could probably be in the NBA, pro ball! But he loves sitting in laps or just relaxing on the couch. He usually keeps watch or falls asleep, but is so quiet and calm you won't even notice him. However, when he gets bored, a chewable or lickpad is his favorite pastime or he likes to work and learn new things.
Beech is very food motivated and has learned to be gentle when handed treats. He uses his tiny teefs to calmly eat from your hand! He sleeps throughout the night perfectly with bed time around 9pm. He is 100% house potty trained, holds throughout the night and goes potty when on walks.
Pros:
- Smart Boy, Knows tons of Cues already: Sit, Lay down, Stay/wait, In (to his bed or his harness), Free, Dab me up, Treat, Goodboy, Come Here, Up, Off.
- Kisses (his way of affection is hand licking)
- Has a routine; wakes up 8-8:30am / Sleeps around 9pm.
- Sleeps throughout the night
- Potty Trained
- Is willing to wait for his food to be served
- Likes Chewables and kibble/treats
- Doesn't mind baths and wipe downs after walks
- Ok at being in his crate left for 2-5 hours ( Does get barky at first)
- Waits calmly when human is eating w/out begging
Cons:
- Slight anxiety/separation anxiety
- Needs more practice with loose leash walking
- Gets barky and excited around other dogs on walks
- Excited when sees small children
- Jumpy
- Barks to outside noises
Beech is a very smart boy, and with some consistency in his new home, he will make strides in his areas for improvement. Using positive reinforcement strategies will be wonderful for his learning, since he thrives on praise and attention.
