Meet Fred, a four-year-old Dogo Argentino with a playful and affectionate personality! Despite his imposing size, Fred is a total sweetheart who loves to be around people. He also enjoys a good yard sniffari and occasionally chasing a ball.
Fred is eager to learn and responds well to positive reinforcement. He’s got an excellent “sit”, and is happy to lay down pretty much any time, especially for a treat. While he's a well-behaved boy, Fred is still learning to navigate his large size and may benefit from additional training regarding personal space and loose leash walking.
Fred spent some time in a short-term foster home, here is what his foster had to say:
- Fred is such a wonderful dog! He is an excellent house guest: housetrained, stayed off the furniture, was happy to sleep out in the living room on his dog bed even when the door to our bedroom was left open for him.
- He was okay being left alone for multiple hours, and was a very relaxed, snoozy dog with bursts of fun, playful energy in the morning and afternoon. A great work from home buddy, cooking buddy, tv buddy – he is happy to find wherever you are hanging out and lay down at your feet, keeping you company.
- He listens well and respects boundaries. He might try to crawl into your lap, but isn’t persistent when you remind him he is too big for that!
- He was non-reactive to our neighbor’s dogs, even when they barked persistently at him through the fence. We only heard him bark once (when looking out the window) in the 5 days we had him. We truly enjoyed our time with Fred.
Fred can go to a home with another dog or as a solo dog with well-matched friends. Fred does best around dogs that don't mind a more forward "wrestle" play style. If you're looking for a loyal and loving companion, Fred might be the perfect match for your family!
