Uma is a sweet and shy 1-year-old, 55-pound shepherd mix who’s learning that the world can be safe and kind. She arrived at the shelter with her puppies and is now on her own journey to trust and confidence.
Uma may be reserved at first, but once she feels comfortable, her affectionate side shines through. She enjoys gentle pets, seeks reassurance from kind people, and has been a calm, independent presence in dog playgroups. She was even a champ during her bath, sweet and cooperative throughout her much-needed spa day.
On a recent field trip to a neighborhood park, Uma was nervous at first and startled easily. But with time, she relaxed and walked a few miles at an easy pace, enjoying a good sniffari. She was neutral around other dogs, cautious around strangers, and showed no interest in small animals. By the end of the outing, she lay down and rolled over for belly rubs, a sweet reminder of her gentle nature.
Uma will thrive in a quiet, patient home that gives her time to settle in and feel secure. Her gentle heart is worth the wait, and the bond you’ll create with her will be something truly special.
